Relationship is everywhere, and everywhere we are shown ourselves.
The other reveals us.
– Coleman Barks, translator and editor of “The Essential Rumi”

Relational Drama Therapy (RDT) is drama therapy based in a therapeutic group process. We proceed with the understanding that healing relationships are the best medicine for personal growth, maturation and self-realization, that we learn extensively about ourselves through emotional interaction with others. We embrace the idea put forth by J.L. Moreno that we are wounded in relationship and can be healed in relationship. The work of RDT interweaves relationships to self, other and community. In practice, RDT integrates role and story method, therapeutic theatre, and the group process of Louis Ormont, as well as utilizing poetry, art, and music as a powerful means of personal exploration. Using the relational aspect of theatre, we enter into explorations of human experience through the guise of character, role, story and enactment. Using the interpersonal approach of group therapy we guide our participants towards deeper, more meaningful connections with others and towards greater understanding of how personal and interpersonal histories impact present relationships.
